The British-built 500cc motocross and enduro bikes

Thanks for visiting my Wilcomoto Motorcycles website.

I’ve been looking for information on Wilcomoto - the company and their bikes - for the last few years. After coming across an old air-cooled, 2 stroke engine on Ebay, I tried in vain to find out more about the strange lump I’d just had delivered.

The guy selling the engine knew nothing about it (it belonged to his father) and my first clue to the manufacturer came when someone from the States (another bidder) identified it as a Wilcomoto. So, initially I thought it was an American bike.

Made by the Wilcox brothers, sawmill equipment manufacturers, between 1980 - 1982 there were two models - a 500cc motocross bike and an enduro version to complement it.

I asked various dirt bike magazines in the States and the UK but nothing much was known about this strange bike! Then success struck in the from of VMX magazine, Australia. They printed my details in the magazine and I soon received a couple of emails from Belgium and then Andy Elliot, from the UK. He supplied me with scanned images of the original sales brochures! Thanks mate.

What did I find out? They were built about twenty miles from where I lived! In Hereford to be exact! All those years and I never knew about a bike manufacturer that close to me.

So I’m closer than I was - but what happened to the Wilcox brothers? A fire destroyed their factory and that was it? No more bikes? If anyone has more info, I’d love to know.
